NEW 50th Anniversary of Decimal Day 50p
NEW 2021 Annual Set Released

On the 11th of January 2021, The Royal Mint released their latest design, the 50th Anniversary of Decimal Day 50p. The coin celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the United Kingdom making the switch to using decimal coinage in 1971.
The switch saw the UK move from using the centuries old system of pounds, shillings and pence to the decimal currency which we use to this day. It was anything but an overnight switch, as years of careful planning and preparation were put into making the change.
The design of the 2021 coin features a carefully selected range of pre-decimal coins, which The Royal Mint and the designer hope brings a sense of nostalgia to the occasion. The centre is a fifty pence shape bearing the inscription '1971 Decimal Day'.

On the 4th of January 2021, The Royal Mint released the 2021 Annual Set. The set contained eight definitive coins, with denominations from one pence to two pounds forming the Shield of the Royal Arms. As well as these, the set included the following commemorative designs:

At this time it is not known which, if any, of the coins from the set will enter general circulation. However, we plan to provide more information on this through our Facebook page as and when we know more from The Royal Mint and HM Treasury.
